They are only a few meters apart, but they follow different rules. The wine bar A Viagem das Horas, on Rua José Ricardo, in Arroios, now knows that at the end of September it will have to remove its new terrace, in an area that before the pandemic was occupied by parking lots. O’Malta Bistro Bar, which is located on Rua Carvalho Araújo, on the opposite side of the small square where both establishments live, knows that it will be able to keep those extra seats until the end of the year.
There’s a reason: O’Malta Bistro Bar belongs to the Penha de França parish, unlike Viagem das Horas, which is part of the Arroios parish. Like so many other establishments integrated into this administrative division of Lisbon, it received the alert in March of this year: on September 30, it must remove the tables and chairs – which add up to 15 new seats – that it won in December 2021. after having been authorized the creation of the new esplanade that, like so many others, began to occupy parking spaces. In total, 365 temporary esplanades were created in Lisbon in 20 of the 24 parishes in the city, Public announced. They occupy 453 parking spaces.
