The Ohio couple celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary last month, and this week they celebrated their 100th birthday.
Family, friends, neighbors and church members joined the couple at Eaton Road Church in Hamilton, Ohio, where a joint birthday party was held. JunioMallicot was born on July 13, 1922, and his husband, Hubert Mallicot, 10 days later, on July 23, 1922.
“We’ve been living together for 79 years and suddenly we’re 100,” Hubert Mallicott told Fox News Digital in a phone interview.
The longtime couple first met in 1941 at the Eton Road Church of God, then under a different name.
Hubert recalled, “After the street service…I went to an ice cream parlor and I met Junio there and we ate ice cream and talked and spent the afternoon together, there was no car, so we continued just him and he’s gone.” Me, I thought about how to make the connection somehow and decided that the church was the best place.”
“I went to church on Sunday and he was there, we sat and talked and we had a good relationship, we repeated the routine for a few weeks and our first official meeting was at the local county fair.”
“I didn’t really know what to do, I was only 19, a country boy, and I thought, ‘She looks good in red,’ and I reached over, gave her a little hug and gave her a kiss.”
Their friendship and romance continued to develop over the course of a year, and in November 1942, Hubert fell in love with World War II. month in a torpedo school.
“Time passed quickly, we had to decide what to do, we decided it was time to get married,” said Hubert. “It was a very happy marriage.”
Junio speaks occasionally due to limited speech after suffering a stroke two years ago, but confirmed that their marriage is happy and their relationship is going well.
Their daughter, Jo Mallicott, confirmed to Fox News Digital that she doesn’t remember a single time her parents said a hurtful word to each other.
“Our point is never to hurt the person you love, and if you have a problem or quarrel, talk about it, solve the problem and move on with your life,” said Hubert.
Hubert added: ‘My wife, with her musical background, was choirmaster for Christmas and did a great job.
Hubert isn’t sure why he and his wife are so lucky to have their 100th birthdays together, but their daughter Jo says it’s probably in their genes.
The couple’s grandchildren are taking care of them, and Hubert noted that he has seven great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
