Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed al-Sahaf explained that “the message sent by Iraq to the UN Security Council included a number of topics, most notably the number of violations of sovereignty since 2018, where we documented more than 22,740 violations in the Turkey message, noting that “we counted the number of memorandums and complaints sent by the Iraqi government to the Turkish side, of which there were 296.”

In his statement, he indicated that “the communication also included informing the Security Council of the nature of the risks associated with the recent attack that affected populated cities in Iraqi territory”, noting that “these attacks involve risks associated with counter-terrorism efforts” .

Al-Sahhaf emphasized that “Turkey is pursuing expansionist goals behind its attacks,” stressing that “there is no security or military agreement with the Turkish side.” And he stressed that “our message included the Turkish side apologizing to Iraq and its people for the losses that have affected infrastructure,” expecting “the Security Council to issue a statement condemning Turkey’s attack on Iraq’s sovereignty.”
