Presidential historian John Meacham was one of the authors of President Joe Biden’s speech describing the MAGA Republicans as a “threat” to America.
An article on Saturday by three Politico journalists said Meacham has helped shape the conversation that has evolved over the past three weeks. Meacham had previously worked with Biden on conversations, including ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Newspaper “New York Times As stated earlier.
Biden’s speech referred to the “soul” of the United States several times. This theme became the title of Meacham’s book. The Spirit of America: The Battle of Our Best Angels which was published in 2018.
“MAGA’s forces are determined to push this country back,” said Biden, speaking in front of the red-lighted Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Thursday night. “Back to America, where you have no choice. No right to privacy. No right to birth control. You have no right to marry the one you love.
“They support authoritarian leaders and fuel the flames of political violence that threatens our individual rights, our pursuit of justice, the rule of law and the spirit of this nation.”
Winner of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for his biography of populist President Andrew Jackson, Meacham praised President Biden and his Democratic far-left agenda.
Meacham spoke passionately about the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that Biden enacted in November, arguing that the Federal Highway Relief Act of 1956 would do for Biden’s legacy what it did for President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s legacy.
“I think it’s in line with what President Eisenhower did in the 1950s,” he told MSNBC. Hit. “The fact that we’re still talking about President Eisenhower and what happened to the Interstate Highway bill, I think proves the point.”
He also said that the Founding Fathers wanted radical ideas like “critical race theory and the 1619 Project” to be incorporated into America’s political discourse.
