American burger chain Five Guys is preparing to open its first store in Portugal next year, John Eckbert, managing director of Five Guys in the UK and Europe, said in an interview on Bloomberg’s “The Pulse with Francine Lacqua.” The chosen city should be Lisbon.
“We will open in Portugal next year. We are thinking about Lisbon, because we always want to be in iconic places. We are looking for the perfect location,” revealed Eckbert, seven years after talking about the brand’s possible arrival in Portugal.

The restaurant chain, which was founded in 1986 in the United States, has nearly 2,000 locations around the world. Known for its burgers, generous amounts of fries served in a paper bag, milkshakes and free peanuts, the brand gained wider global notoriety after former President Barack Obama said his restaurant was a favorite.
