Germany has banned ‘Nakba Day’ demonstrations in Palestine

Yesterday, on Friday, a German court in the capital Berlin upheld a ban on all Palestinian “Nakba Day” demonstrations scheduled for the weekend in the capital, Berlin.

The newspaper “Tagspiegel” reported that the Administrative Court “banned five Palestinian demonstrations on the grounds that they threatened provocative or anti-Semitic appeals and acts of violence”.

The civil society organization Palestine Speaks criticized the ban on demonstrations as “strict” and described the decision as a “violation of fundamental rights such as freedom of assembly and expression”.

“The Berlin police ban on commemorations in Germany restricts and deprives Palestinians of their fundamental rights in Germany and raises varying levels of concern over the standards of a constitutional democratic state, ”The organization said in a statement.

He explained that commemorating the Nakba is an important way for Palestinians in Germany to remember the injustice suffered by our ancestors and to stand up for the human rights of Palestinians everywhere.

Palestinian groups have announced they will protest Israeli policies on Saturday and Sunday.

Palestinians commemorate Nakba Day on May 15 each year to commemorate the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in 1948.
