Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held a trilateral meeting with his Swedish counterpart, Anne Linde, and Finnish counterpart, Pekka Haavisto, in Berlin, the capital of Germany.
It came on the sidelines of an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in the German capital, Berlin.
In a tweet he shared on Twitter, Çavuşoğlu said he and Lindy and Haavisto discussed the meeting between them.
In making statements before the meeting, Çavuşoğlu reviewed the efforts of Sweden and Finland to join the NATO and Turkey stance on this issue.
Çavuşoğlu said that any country that becomes a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization “NATO” should not support the Kurdistan Workers ’Party, which Ankara classifies as a terrorist organization.
The Turkish foreign minister noted that Sweden and Finland had given “very public support” to the PKK despite all the warnings.
On Friday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed Turkey’s reservations about Sweden and Finland’s NATO access process.
“We are currently monitoring developments regarding Sweden and Finland, but we are not looking at this issue positively,” Erdogan said in a press release in Istanbul.
He added that it is unfortunate that Scandinavian countries have become guesthouses of terrorist organizations, and terrorist PKK (PKK) and DHKPJ (extreme left organization) are nesting in countries like Sweden and the Netherlands and occupying seats in parliament. . . . .
On Thursday, Finland announced its intention to apply to join NATO, in a joint statement released by President Sauli Niinisto and Prime Minister Sanna Marin, paving the way for alliance growth as the Russia-Ukraine war continues.
After that, Sweden announced on Thursday its intention to apply to join NATO, stating that it had already prepared all its plans to apply for membership.
