Japanese authorities will deploy 18,000 police to guard various facilities in Tokyo during US President Joe Biden’s visit on May 22-24 and on the occasion of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue Summit.
Leaders from the USA, Japan, Australia and India will attend the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue Summit in Tokyo.
Kyodo News reported on Thursday that authorities will pay special attention to various terrorist threats, including in the cybersecurity space, and a special headquarters has been set up to manage police forces for this purpose.
Since Thursday, police have placed barricades on the streets surrounding the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and created barriers that allow vehicles to move at low speeds, while police have selectively stopped vehicles and checked the drivers ’documents, it said.
Greater attention will be given to stations, airports and other crowded places, as well as protecting the residences of leaders, embassies and government agencies.
A special unit was also used to prevent the emergence of drones for potential criminals and should impose temporary traffic restrictions.
Such stringent security measures were taken during former US President Donald Trump’s visit to Japan in May 2019.
