An Israeli court has sentenced Beersheba resident Asher Ben David to 13 months in prison for social media posts in which he expressed a desire to kill former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to The Times of Israel, Ben-David was initially sentenced to eight months of social services and a $445 fine.

However, the prosecutor’s office filed an appeal, arguing that the court’s decision was too lenient, and this decision was accepted by the Beersheba District Court. The defendant admitted to tweeting in 2020: “Does anyone know that preparations are underway to assassinate the prime minister? I would like to participate… It seems the time has come.”

A few days later, Ben-David posted another tweet addressed to Netanyahu’s son Yair, which said: “Yair my friend, you are nervous, what happened, your house is shaking? The walls are thin, I can hear your heartbeat.” And the prosecution pointed out, according to Israeli Channel 12 News, that “everyone should know before they dare to make such comments that they will receive severe punishment.”
