Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission of the Security Council of Russia on the creation of a national system of protection against new infectious diseases noted that “even other news has appeared, which is not encouraging, especially from Europe: “This is not due to the coronavirus infection, but to monkeypox. These are isolated cases, but of course they are very disturbing.”
Earlier, the British Health Agency said the total number of monkeypox cases in the country had risen to nine, and the Spanish Ministry of Health and local authorities launched a health alert system after the discovery of eight cases of monkeypox in Madrid, local media reported. In addition to Sweden, the first case of the disease was detected on Thursday in Italy, and the first cases of monkeypox infection were detected in Australia and Canada.
Remarkably, monkeypox, a rare viral infection that is also transmitted between humans, is usually mild and most infected people recover within a few weeks, but some may experience complications.
