German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said that his country does not support the idea of ​​obtaining a joint European loan to finance the reconstruction of Ukraine.

“Germany is refusing an additional loan based on the European Union’s Next Generation Program model,” Lindner said at a press conference after meeting with his G7 counterparts on aid to Ukraine.

He believed that “the joint European loan was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it was provided with funds that had not yet been fully utilized”, and explained that “Berlin prefers to resort to traditional third party financial support mechanisms”. countries” previously tested by the European Union.

And the European Commission this week indicated that it was “considering the idea of ​​obtaining a new syndicated loan for Kyiv.”

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, previously pointed out that “the EU countries should consider confiscating the frozen Russian funds and directing them to the restoration of Ukraine.” He explained that “the US has previously established its control and control of billions of dollars of assets belonging to the Central Bank of Afghanistan, which will be used in part for possible compensation for victims of terrorism, as well as humanitarian aid to the country, noting that “similar steps could be considered” to fight the Russian reserves.

Borrell stressed that “for my part, I would like this, because it is very logical,” stressing that “the issue of financing the reconstruction of Ukraine is one of the main political issues, given the huge amount of money that should be allocated for this. .”
