Former U.S. President Donald Trump paid a $110,000 fine for “impeding” a massive tax fraud investigation that the New York State Judiciary has been conducting since 2019, according to a judiciary official.

On April 25, the New York Supreme Court ordered Trump to pay $10,000 a day if he refuses to provide accounting and tax documents as part of a civil investigation launched by State Attorney General Leticia James against the Trump organization.

“Trump paid $110,000 to the attorney general’s office on May 19,” a spokesperson for Leticia James said in an email.

A bitter legal battle has been raging for months now between a Democratic judge and a Republican billionaire.

On February 17, James instructed a New York judge to order Donald Trump, his son Donald Jr., and daughter Ivanka to testify under oath as part of this investigation.

The Trump family appealed the decision, accusing James of being a “political wanted man.”

The court also required a number of accounting and tax documents to be handed over to the Trump Organization by March 31.

In the absence of a response from the organization, James petitioned the New York State Supreme Court to hold Donald Trump liable for “obstructing (an investigation into) his failure to comply with the court’s order.”

But on May 6, a New York judge suspended the calculation of fine days and gave Trump until Friday, May 20, to pay the consequences for the period from April 25 to May 6, equivalent to $110,000 in 11 days.
