NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg noted that “NATO’s first task is to help Ukraine. Wars are unpredictable and no one can say how and when this war will end, but we must be prepared to maintain our support for a long time.”

He pointed out in a press interview that “it is not only about transferring new military equipment to Ukraine, but also about maintaining the delivered materials in working order”, noting that “NATO’s other role is limited to preventing the escalation of tensions.”

Stoltenberg stressed that “if this escalates into a war between Russia and NATO, then it will bring more destruction and damage to all of Europe. Therefore, we must act in a way that does not help and does not lead to an escalation, and we clearly understand that NATO supports Ukraine.” But he is not participating in the war.

He emphasized that since the beginning of Russia’s war in Ukraine, “we have increased the size of our forces in the east of the alliance to 40,000 people with great support from the naval and air forces. Our goal is not to start a war, but to prevent it, keep the peace and avoid confusion or misunderstanding in Moscow.” NATO’s readiness to defend all allies.
