Senegalese President Macky Sall fired Health Minister Abdoulaye Diouf-Sar after 11 babies died in a fire at a public hospital.
According to a statement made by the President, President Sall replaced Abdullah Diouf Sar as Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. He issued an order to appoint Marie Khamis Ngoum Ndiaye.
The new Minister of Health will be the Director-General of Public Health in the country until his appointment.
The tragedy that caused the deaths of 11 infants who were taken to a state hospital in the western city of Tifwani, has created outrage and once again revealed the grim situation of the health sector in this poor country.
On Thursday, opposition lawmaker Mohamed El-Amine Diallo wrote on Twitter: “More children are being burned at the stake in a public hospital. This is not acceptable, Macky Sall. ”
The Senegalese president declared three days of national mourning for 11 babies and decided to shorten his visit abroad so he can visit the city of Tiffany on Saturday and return to his country this Friday.
Authorities have announced an investigation into the disaster, while the judiciary has promised to make a firm decision on the case.
