Amnesty International reiterated its appeal to the Egyptian authorities to immediately release activists Alaa Abdel-Fattah and Mohamed El-Baker without any conditions or restrictions. And she pointed out that “activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah, who has Egyptian and British citizenship, has been on a hunger strike since April 2 in protest against his unjust imprisonment and harsh conditions in prison, as well as his refusal to visit the consulate.”

And the statement stated: “Abdel-Fattah and Al-Baker are prisoners of conscience who have not been prosecuted for any reason other than their activities, and they should be released immediately and without any conditions or restrictions.” On December 20, 2021, the Emergency Court for Misdemeanors of State Security in Egypt sentenced activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah and four-year-old human rights lawyer Mohamed El-Baker to five years in prison, finding them guilty of “spreading false news.” which they were “fabricated”. Because of their social media posts, they were arbitrarily detained for 28 months solely for the peaceful exercise of their human rights,” according to Amnesty International.
