US Senator Ted Cruz, one of the most prominent Republicans to oppose gun restrictions, walked out of an interview with a British journalist after several questions he called “political.”
Cruz was taking part in a vigil for the victims of the Uvalde massacre, where an 18-year-old man shot and killed 19 children and two adults, when Sky News journalist Mark Stone approached him. Asked by Stone if this would not be the time to move forward with a legislative reform on the issue of weapons, Cruz considered that it is a “political” issue.

The interview continued, with the senator reacting with increasing disgust at the journalist’s insistence, who continued to question whether there should be more gun control measures. “None of the Democrat proposals would have prevented this,” Ted Cruz continued.

This will be Abbott’s second visit to Uvalde after Tuesday’s attack. On the first visit, as the Houston Chronicle recalls, the governor said he was not in favor of more laws limiting access to guns.
