According to the New York Times, three Iranians aware of the attack and a US official targeted the Parchin military site in Iran, where Tehran is developing missile and nuclear drone technology.
According to Iranian sources, who were not allowed to speak publicly, on Wednesday evening, drones attacked the site of a highly sensitive complex 37 miles southeast of the capital.
They also explained that the drones exploded in a building used by the Iranian Ministry of Defense, killing a young engineer working at the ministry and injuring another.
In addition, Israeli officials declined to comment, but a US official confirmed that drones had attacked Parchin, but did not say who was behind them or provide further details.
While Iranian sources familiar with the attack said that the drone attack was carried out on Wednesday from inside Iran and near the Parchin military base, the drones used in the attack have a short range and Parchin is far from the borders of Iran.
The targeting of UAV research facilities in Parchin is a model of Israel’s efforts to counter Iran’s growing UAV capabilities.
According to a senior intelligence official familiar with the operation, Israel attacked six facilities near the city of Kermanshah, Iran’s main military drone production and storage facility, in early February with six explosive-laden drones. The Israeli offensive destroyed dozens of Iranians. Drone
In response, Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles at a residential complex in northern Iraq, which it said Israeli agents had used to plan attacks against Iran.
Iranian sources familiar with the attack said that the drone attack was carried out on Wednesday from inside Iran and near the Parchin military base, where the drones used in the attack have a short range and Parchin is far from Iran’s borders.
This is not the first time that Israel has used elements inside Iran to carry out attacks.
A few days ago, it was announced that a Revolutionary Guards colonel had been shot dead in Tehran last Sunday, and Israel had told the United States that, according to an intelligence official, he was behind the killing.
The official said the Israelis saw this as a warning to Iran to stop targeting Israeli citizens abroad.
