Ukraine issues search and arrest warrant against former president of the Constitutional Court

The Ukrainian authorities issued, this Friday, a search and arrest warrant for the former president of the Constitutional Court Alexandr Tupitski, to be prosecuted for “crimes against justice”.

According to a statement from the Public Ministry of Ukraine, the The order was issued after Tupitsky illegally left Ukraine on March 17, as under martial law men under the age of 60 are not allowed to do so.except in exceptional circumstances, as they are needed to fight the Russian army, which invaded the country on February 24.

Tupitsky, according to the prosecutor, “systematically evaded justice” and is currently in Austria.

The state prosecutor, who filed a complaint against the former president of the Constitutional Court (TC) in May last year, accuses him of having bribed a witness for personal reasons in a case related to the seizure of company assets and of having made false witness charge

Alexander Tupitsky was dismissed by the Government in December 2020 with the aim of “restoring justice and solving the constitutional crisis”, after the TC considered unconstitutional the anti-corruption laws promoted by the President of the Republic, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The former president of the TC described the government’s attempts to dissolve the court as a “coup d’état”, while the executive said that several of the magistrates were involved in a conflict of interest that had led them to fail to comply with part of the Prevention Law of Corruption. .
