Migrant was the first person in Sweden to be convicted of rebelling against the Quran.

A migrant who tried to throw a rock at a Swedish police officer has become the first person to be convicted in response to the burning of Islamic Quran copies after days of riots during Easter in Sweden.

The 34-year-old stranger was sentenced to just six months in prison for trying to harass and severely assault a Swedish police officer in the closed-off Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby on Good Friday.

It was also reported that he distributed stones and stones to the rebels to throw at police and police vehicles.

The Solna District Court ruled that there was no reasonable suspicion that the man participated in the riots, but there was insufficient evidence that the man organized or directed the violence, broadcaster SVT reported.

The man is believed to be a Tajik national and is allegedly under a deportation order and wanted by the police before he was arrested for participating in the riots.

Muslim unrest erupted in many cities in Sweden at Easter when Danish anti-Islamic activist Rasmus Paludan and his group Stram Kurs (Hard Line) staged a series of demonstrations and set fire to copies of the Qur’an. Even activists had the opportunity to organize their demonstration.

More than a hundred police officers were injured in the violence, mostly because they were stoned by local residents. The officers suffered a variety of injuries, including bone fractures and even brain damage.

“Without the protective equipment, I would have been seriously injured or even killed,” said one of the police officers involved in the riots last month. Another said he believed the crowd wanted to kill the officers.

Sweden’s National Police Chief Anders Thornberg said most of the violence blamed criminal gangs. “These are not ordinary counter-protests, we have strong suspicion that those attacking police and police emergencies are linked to criminal gangs.”

Police earlier this month authorized Paludan and its supporters to hold more demonstrations, while some wanted a ban on guilt-ridden anti-Islam protests and political demonstrations following the riots.
