Bolsonaro once again defends the armed people against an alleged communist threat

The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, reiterated on Tuesday his defense of the use of weapons and said that armed people will be able to defend the homeland from those who supposedly want to impose regime change and promote communism.

Bolsonaro, in a message about the presidential elections, which will take place in October, when he will try to renew his mandate, thus openly alluded, although without identifying him, to former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvathe center-left candidate who has so far led all voting intention polls.

The Brazilian president also insisted on his mistrust of electronic voting machines, which have been used in Brazil since 1996 and about which he says, without any proofthat encourage fraud, despite the fact that no irregularity has ever been denounced after the adoption of this type of voting in the country.

“I am a president who as a young man swore to give his life for the country and we will do more than that for our freedom,” said Bolsonaro, who reaffirmed that he wants “clean, democratic and auditable elections.”

During the inauguration of a sports complex in the city of Jataí, in the interior of the state of Goiás, the Brazilian head of state said that “there are people who want power,” but assured that Brazil has a free people that will do everything. to keep it that way “despite attempts by some to want to change the regime”.

Bolsonaro insisted on his policies to facilitate the purchase of weapons by civilians, promoted as part of a supposed self-defense against crime, but could also be an alternative for another objective.

“Something important for people who want to live in peace: an armed people will never be enslaved,” said the Brazilian president, raising his tone, to add that “the firearm in the hands of good citizens, more than defending their families , will also defend the homeland”.

Also in open allusion to Lula da Silva, the progressive leader who governed Brazil between 2003 and 2010, Bolsonaro once again stressed that his government “is radically against abortion, against gender ideology, against communism” and “fears God above all else”.

Bolsonaro’s constant references to weapons in the hands of civilians and his criticism of the electoral system have raised fears that if Lula da Silva wins, he will not admit defeat and encourage his supporters to violently resist.

These fears have already been expressed by the authorities of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and by many allies of Lula da Silva, who, according to a survey released last week by the Datafolha Institute, has an intention to vote of 48%, in against the 27% that Bolsonaro would obtain.
