The huge Palestinian flag that was flown next to the Israeli flag over a building in the stock exchange area of the city of Ramat Gan in central Israel was removed following outrage and protests on social media.

The left-wing Israeli organization Mahzekim has flown a Palestinian flag alongside a huge Israeli flag under the slogan “We must live together” to protest plans to ban the hoisting of the Palestinian flag in Israeli educational institutions, a trend that comes after the Palestinian flag was raised at the University Ben Gurion and Tel Aviv University in memory of Nakba Day.

Commenting on the removal of the flag from the building, Uri Kohl, general director of the leftist movement, said: “Two peoples still live here, Jews and Arabs, and they will continue to fight for a common future. The banner was just the beginning.” Despite the uproar caused by the hanging of flags in the Borsa area, similar banners were hung in the Arab cities of Nazareth and Tire with a similar inscription accompanying the Israeli and Palestinian flags.
