The Spanish authorities rescued more than 250 people at sea last morning

More than 250 people were rescued last night and early morning, in waters near the coast of Spain, when they were traveling in precarious boats, the Spanish authorities announced on Wednesday.

Four boats located near the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, in the Canary archipelago, carried 217 people on board, including eight minors, according to sources from the Spanish emergency service cited by the EFE news agency. According to the same sources, five of these people were transferred to hospitals: two minors and three women, one of them pregnant.

A fifth ship was located during the night in the Strait of Gibraltar, in the south of mainland Spain, with 38 men on boardSources from Salvamento Marítimo, the Spanish entity in charge of search and rescue operations at sea, explain to Efe.

The 38 people in this group were transferred to the port of Algeciras in apparent good health, according to the same sources.
