Union requests a meeting with the MAI for “the diversion” of PSP agents to the SEF

The National Union of the Police (Sinapol) requested this Friday a “urgent” meeting to the Minister of Internal Administration due to the movement of agents from the PSP to the SEF “On a special service commission regime”.

The movement of personnel from the PSP to the SEF may endanger the security of national airports, taking into account the already evident lack of personnel in the PSP, since the police elements that transfer to the SEF will hardly be replaced by others professionals in the police and security mission that until now had been carried out at the airports”, the union advanced in a statement.

The contingency plan for border posts at Portuguese airports for the period From June to September 2022 covers 168 PSP agentswhich will come under the operational control of the Immigration and Borders Service in passenger control.

Sinapol considers that “The loss of labor rights of PSP members who come to work at the SEF may be at stake”that is, the right to perform paid services, as well as the overtime they perform at the service of the SEF and that, later, most likely, the PSP will never pay them”.

The union also warns of the risk of PSP agents being relocated to other airports and that they are not those where they currently work.

Sinapol states that is not against PSP agents going to the SEFbut he does not agree with the way in which “this whole circulation process is taking place” due to the pressure exerted on the police when they are forced to fill out an acceptance document “almost as an ultimatum.”

The union also considers it “unacceptable” that the unions representing the PSP have not been summoned to meetings in the Ministry of the Interior or in the national board of the PSP, in addition to the “sad reality that the PSP agents are treated as stingy”. employment, since they continue to receive the salary of the PSP and not the equivalent salary in the SEF”.

On Thursday, the president of the Association of Police Professionals said that they are considering holding several protests, mainly at the Lisbon and Porto airports, due to the lack of information on the impacts of the restructuring of the SEF.

Within the framework of the extinction of the SEF, which in the meantime was postponed until the creation of the Portuguese Agency for Migration and Asylum, the police powers of the Immigration and Border Service will pass to the PSP, the GNR and the Judicial Police.

PSP will take control of the airportswith agents who receive training for this purpose.
