A second Russian ship has arrived at the Ukrainian port of Mariupol, occupied by Moscow forces, to bring steel from Ukraine to Russia, the Russian state agency TASS reported on Saturday. Last Monday, a Russian ship removed 2,500 tons of steel from Mariupol, in southeastern Ukraine.which were transported to the Russian region of Rostov.
The Ukrainian authorities considered that these operations were illegal looting of Russiathat invaded Ukraine on February 24.
According to the TASS agency, operations in the port of Berdyansk, neighboring Mariupol and also occupied by Russia, will be restored in a few days. The agency cites Vladimir Rogov, an element of the administration installed by Moscow in the territories it occupies in the Zaporizhia region, in southeastern Ukraine.
This administration announced on Thursday that it has taken control of Ukrainian state properties in the region. According to Rogov, quoted this Saturday by TASS, demining work in the port of Berdyansk since Thursdaywhich will still take a few days.
When it begins operations, the port has a cargo turnover potential of five to six million tons and could be used for the transshipment of agricultural products, fuels or minerals, according to Rogov. As for Mariupol, it is the largest port in the inland sea of Azov and the only one with this location where it is possible to handle all types of cargoeven during the winter.
Russia’s control over the Sea of Azov (Kherson, Zaporizhia and Donetsk), including the port of Mariupol, allows Moscow to build a land bridge linking Russian territory with the Crimean peninsula, which it occupied and annexed in 2014.
