United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on the Sudanese parties to “participate in good faith and continue to work to create an environment conducive to constructive dialogue for the benefit of the Sudanese people.”

Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for the Secretary-General, said: “Guterres welcomes the efforts of the tripartite mechanism, which includes the United Nations Integrated Assistance Mission for the Sudan (UNITAMS), the African Union Commission and the General Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). IGAD) and its role in helping to resolve the political crisis in Sudan”, noting that “the Secretary-General of the United Nations expresses at the same time his concern about “attempts to undermine the efforts of the tripartite mechanism and its representatives”.

He stated that “Guterres once again strongly supports the work of UNITAMS by continuing to support the aspirations of the Sudanese people to achieve democracy, peace and prosperity”, noting that “he reminded the Sudanese parties that all forms of hate speech constitute attacks on tolerance and undermine social cohesion and can lay the foundation for violence.” This leads to a decline in efforts to bring peace to the country.

Notably, the Tripartite Mechanism-sponsored Sudan Dialogue was launched indirectly on May 12 to discuss ways to defuse the country’s crisis since last October, which led to the dissolution of the government and the imposition of a state of emergency.
