Reveal details of murder of Iraqi player, 2007 Asian Cup champion (video)

Iraqi media has revealed new details about the murder of former Iraqi soccer player Haider Abdul Razzaq.

Abdul Razzaq, 40, died on Sunday, June 5, 2022, after being attacked by unknown assailants three days ago.

And local media quoted Osama Adnan, the lawyer of the late player, as saying that Haidar owned the five-player stadium and appointed someone to manage it.

This man caused a great deal of trouble to the people in the area, where the stadium is located, so Haider Abdul Razzaq intervened and shut down the problem, before letting the worker quit his job.

As a result, this worker and a group of his siblings violently attacked the former international player, causing him severe injuries, according to the lawyer’s statement.

Medical tests conducted at the Wholesale Neurological Hospital showed the deceased had a skull fracture and internal bleeding, then he remained in intensive care, before announcing his death early this Sunday.

Abdul Razzaq started his football career at the Iraqi Student Club in 2002, before moving to Qatari clubs Al-Ahly, Syrian Al-Ittihad, Al-Ansar and Lebanese Al-Saida.

He also played in Iraq for the Duhok, Karkh and Sulaymaniyah teams, and had very short professional experience with Uzbek club Abdijan, which lasted only 4 months, from July 1, 2011 to November 1 of the same year.

The late athlete achieved many victories with various Sunni groups of the Iraq national team, where he participated with the Olympic team in the Athens Summer Olympics in 2004, which the “Lions of Mesopotamia” finished in fourth place. .

He also managed the first team to win the title at the West Asian Games, held in Qatar in 2005, and then took second place at the West Asian Championships held in Jordan in 2007.

The most notable career success of Abdul Razzaq and the Iraqi team as a whole was capturing the Asian Cup title, played in 2007 in Malaysia, after beating Saudi Arabia.

And he won the Asian Youth Cup in 2001, and also defended the colors of Iraqi youth at the World Cup in Argentina in 2001.
