Aerial photographs show damage to Damascus airport as a result of Israeli attack

Image set satellite images of the International Airport showed the extent of the damage to the runway of Damascus International Airport, which caused the runway to fail.

The images clearly identified the airports that were severely damaged in the Israeli attack on Damascus International Airport early Friday morning.

The Syrian Ministry of Transportation issued a statement saying that the Zionist regime’s aggression that targeted the infrastructure of Damascus International Airport caused the landing of these airports to be decommissioned.

The ministry said in a statement issued by the Syrian News Agency (SANA) that the runways were significantly damaged in more than one location by navigation light, in addition to material damage to the airport’s second terminal building. As a result of this aggression and as a result of these damages, incoming and outgoing flights through the airport were stopped until further notice.

“Its personnel in civil aviation and nationally competent companies are working to eliminate the effects of the encroachment and repair the extensive damage to the airport, and the airport will be rebuilt after repairs to ensure its safety and security,” the ministry said. “And resume operational operations at the airport in coordination with airlines.”

Prior to the ministry announcement, Syria confirmed that the air defenses had responded to Israeli missile strikes targeting parts of southern Damascus.

“Most of the hostile missiles were shot down, and Israeli aggression resulted in the wounding of a civilian and material damage,” Sanaa reported.
