NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Ukraine needed heavy weapons and reconnaissance equipment, and noted that alliance countries had donated billions of dollars to it.
Stoltenberg announced NATO’s commitment to “secure the military equipment Ukraine needs for success, including heavy and long-lasting weapons.”
He also reported that the alliance had “doubled the fighting groups to 8 and expanded their range of influence from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea”.
The NATO Secretary-General said that “to deal with the threat of Russia requires concerted investment from Allied countries and increased participation of Allies in maneuvers”.
Regarding Finland and Sweden’s membership, Stoltenberg said, “We will take into account the security concerns of all NATO countries regarding Sweden and Finland’s decision to join the alliance.”
The NATO Secretary -General went on to rank the alliance’s increased measures near Russia’s borders, noting that “there will be a greater presence to the east of the alliance and in air, land and sea defense systems”.
He also announced that “NATO will invite the President of Ukraine to attend the next NATO summit in Madrid in two weeks”.
