American NATO delegate Julian Smith announced that the new NATO strategy will be different from the previous strategy published in 2010.
“Of course everyone cares about what NATO has to say about Russia,” Smith said at a conference focused on security issues in Washington on Wednesday. This is different than in 2010. ”
“Moreover, new additions will be made to the strategy. We will probably see China mentioned for the first time in the new strategy, which will be an important event in NATO history. ”
Noting that NATO members believe that Russia is violating the terms of the basic agreement between Russia and NATO, the delegate added that this means removing restrictions on the deployment of NATO forces in the Eastern and Central Europe.
“The alliance has discussed the future of Russia and the main NATO agreement, and all the allies agree that Russia is violating the main agreement. And all the allies agree that we are in a situation where none of us really depend on what. This is stipulated in the main agreement of the Turkish Republic, ”he said.
He added that he could not mention a specific phrase to be used about Russia in NATO’s new strategy, but there was consensus that “there are no restrictions imposed by the main agreement between Russia and NATO”.
