On Wednesday, Israel came close to holding its fifth election in less than four years, after lawmakers initially approved the dissolution of the Knesset.
The Knesset voted in favor of the bill in the initial reading of the bill, which is expected to be completed next week, after which Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will take over as caretaker Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
After the initial reading, the dissolution bill must be approved by a parliamentary committee, and then three more votes must be cast by an absolute majority of at least 61 of the 120 members of the Knesset.
If this happens, the Knesset must hold a maximum of five months from the date the bill is legalized.
This period will lead to more turmoil for Israel, as it faces rising inflation, Iran and conflict with the Palestinians.
