The US military said it carried out an attack in Syria’s Idlib province against a leader of the extremist group Hurras al-Din, linked to the al-Qaeda terror network.
“Abu Hamzah al-Yemeni was traveling alone on a motorcycle at the time of the attack,” the US military Central Command (Centcom) said in a statement on Monday, assuring has no indication of civilian casualties.
The removal of this leader will disrupt al Qaeda’s ability to conduct attacks against American citizens, our partners and innocent civilians around the world,” Centcom said.
US officials have a “high degree of confidence” that the attack, carried out with a buzz (unmanned aerial device) killed the extremist leaderaccording to an official, quoted by the CNN television network.
This is the second US operation this month targeting an extremist leader in Syria.
US forces captured an Islamic State (IS) extremist group leader Hani Ahmed Al-Kurdi in an operation in Aleppo province on June 16.
In early February, the US killed IS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurachi in an operation in the Atme area of Idlib province.
