When browsing the internet, at least 63% of younger Europeans now come across fake news more than once a week. In the opinion of the European Commission, the phenomenon of disinformation continues to “evolve rapidly”, with the pandemic and the war in Ukraine showing that something more was needed to try to stop this scenario.
The first code of conduct of the European Commission against fake news it was published in 2018, but an evaluation carried out in 2020 showed that it was already outdated and with “deficiencies”. So now, the European institution has announced the arrival of a new code, which it says will be strengthened, to help companies fight disinformation.
