Commenting on Lithuania’s ban on the transit of certain goods to the province, the governor of the Kaliningrad region of Russia, Anton Alikhanov, stressed that “if Russia imposes retaliatory sanctions, the Lithuanian transport industry may be destroyed.”

In a press statement, he pointed out that the developed sanctions list is a “strong weapon”, noting that “among the proposed measures, the economic one remains the best.” He emphasized that “in my opinion, Russia’s economic response is a much more effective and extremely destructive measure, comparable to neutron weapons. Russia can make half of the Lithuanian economy disappear.”

Ali Khanov stressed that “Lithuania does not seem to realize that Kaliningrad is part of Russia and that there are those who protect us, and we are not alone in this problem.”

The fourth round of sanctions imposed on Russia prevented the entry of some goods from the European Union into Russia, and, accordingly, Lithuania imposed sanctions on rail traffic and land cargo that passes through it to the Russian enclave in Kaliningrad.
