A shooting at the Fields shopping center in Copenhagen (Denmark) on Sunday afternoon caused several victims. The information was confirmed by the Danish police, who announced that three people died and several were injured.
This Monday, at a press conference, police inspector Søren Thomassen revealed that the victims are a 17-year-old Danish man and woman, and a 47-year-old Russian man.
The authorities began by revealing that four people of Danish and Swedish nationality were in critical condition: two 40-year-olds, one 50-years-old and one 16-years-old. Both the dead and the wounded were shot. But a new situation on Monday morning revealed that of the three injured who arrived in critical condition at Rigshospital, two are now stable and out of danger, while the third remains in serious condition. The fourth injured man was taken to Herlev hospital, and is also out of danger.
The 22-year-old is believed to be the perpetrator of the attack.”is known to have psychiatric problems”, added the police, who did not clarify if the man sought help before the shooting, according to the Ekstra Bladet newspaper. The police also said that there are no reasons believe that there is more than one attacker or that the attack was an act of terrorism.
At a press conference on Sunday, the main suspect is a 22-year-old Dane, who was arrested shortly after outside the shopping center. The young man was carrying a shotgun and ammunition, but “there could be another weapon involved,” according to the inspector.
Police did not say what the motive for the attack was. “I can’t stand here now saying I know what the motivation was,” admitted the inspector. On Sunday night, the Danish police announced that the young man, who will be charged with murder and will appear in court on Monday, was already known to the authorities, although “for nothing special.”
If initially the Copenhagen police did not rule out the possibility that the detainee had accomplices, at night Inspector Thomassen ruled out this scenario: “The attacker did not work with others. We haven’t been able to test it,” he explained to reporters.

“We were sitting in a restaurant on the second floor and all of a sudden we saw people running around like crazy. Then we hear a gunshot and we hide in the kitchen. We could hear someone walking around and shooting multiple times. I think there were five shots, but I’m not sure,” a man, who identified himself as Henrik, told the Ekstra Bladet newspaper.
Former Congressman Joachim B. Olsen was arriving at the Field Mall when he was met with confusion.
Of course, the chaos was general and I was right in the middle. People came out with their hands up”, the politician told TV2. “I spoke to a man who told me that his wife had been shot. I repeated this several times, it was horrible.
Copenhagen Mayor Sophie H. Andersen called the situation “terrible” on Twitter. “We still don’t know for sure how many injured or dead, but it is very serious,” wrote the mayor, who decided to activate the municipality’s emergency team.

Author of the attack will be a young man who was armed with a shotgun
Danish police confirmed that they had detained a 22-year-old Danish citizen, but did not provide further details about his identity. Copenhagen Police Inspector Søren Thomassen confirmed at a news conference that the suspect will be present for questioning on Monday.
Two women inside the mall who saw the shooter had already told Ekstra Bladet that he was “a man who looked Danish and was in his 20s or 30s.”
Another person present in the mall, Mahdi Al-Wazni, saw and spoke to the suspected attacker before he started shooting. “He was white and dressed in what looked like hunting or military clothing and wore a backwards cap.”the witness told TV2.
Al-Wazni filmed the man on his cell phone as he was armed with what appeared to be a shotgun. “He spoke directly to me and said it wasn’t a real gun while he was filming it,” he said. The shooter seemed “violent and angry,” the witness says, but also “proud of what he was doing.”
Authorities are now investigating four videos posted on Youtube that may be related to the suspect. As the Copenhagen police confirmed to the Jyllands-Posten newspaper, the the videos in question show a young man with a shotgun and a pistol and were published on July 1. The legend says “Quetiapine does not work”: Quetiapine is a antipsychotic medication It is used to treat conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
“We are familiar with the videos, which are part of our investigation,” Deputy Inspector Lars Karlsen told the newspaper, declining to confirm whether the young man in the video appears to be the suspect arrested on Sunday.
The Danish Minister of Justice, Mattias Tesfaye, confirmed on Sunday night that the motive that led to this crime has not yet been identified. “We still don’t know why what’s behind [do ataque]but I can assure you that the authorities are doing everything possible to get to the bottom of this case, so that the person or persons responsible can be prosecuted,” the minister wrote in an email.
