Adala – Israel’s Arab Minority Rights Law Center (non-governmental human rights activist) revealed “a US-Israeli plan to establish a diplomatic compound owned by Washington’s embassy in Jerusalem on a private Palestinian territory.” .”
The center said in a statement that “in the lead-up to US President Joe Biden’s visit to Israel, it calls on the heirs of the original owners, including American citizens and Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem, to cancel the scheme immediately.”
A study of Adal in archival records revealed “Palestinian ownership of the lands on which the diplomatic complex is to be based, as it was illegally confiscated from Palestinian refugees and displaced persons under the Israeli Absent Persons Property Law of 1950.”
According to Adal’s research, “Documents from the State Archives prove that the land was owned by Palestinian families and was temporarily leased to the British Mandate authorities until 1948. The land was confiscated from its Palestinian owners in 1950 after they became refugees during the Nakba. ”
