French President Emmanuel Macron, accused of serving the interests of the US company Uber when he was economy minister, commented on the situation, noting that he “acted at the time to create jobs in France and will do so again.”
In a statement, he stressed: “We must fight unemployment by all means and I take full responsibility for my meetings with foreign businessmen and I am proud of it, if they have created jobs in France, I am proud of it and will do so tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.”
Deputies from the French opposition condemned reports of a “secret deal” between Macron, who was his minister in the government of François Hollande, and the Uber transport company, considering what happened “the theft of the country.”
Allegations of the existence of this deal were unearthed in the latest investigation by leading international news organizations based on the leaked files and dubbed “#UberFiles” on social media. The Uber Files investigation is based on thousands of internal Uber documents submitted to the Guardian by an anonymous source and obtained by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
