Borrell urges Russia to assume its responsibility and cooperate in the case of MH17

The High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union asked Russia this Saturday to “accept your responsibility and cooperatein the case of the downing of the plane MH17, which caused the death of 298 peopleeight years ago.

Josep Borrell affirmed that the war that Russia unleashed “it’s a painful memoryof what happened on July 17, 2014, when the Malaysia Airlines plane en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed after being hit by a missilewhile flying over eastern Ukraine during the conflict that culminated in the annexation of Crimea.

On the eve of the anniversary, the head of European diplomacy reiterated the “Full support” of the European Union to the efforts being made to “find out the truth and achieve justice” for the victims and their families, holding those responsible accountable.

A court in the Netherlands is currently prosecuting four suspects, three Russians and one Ukrainian, all in absentia, for their alleged responsibility in the downing of the plane, with a verdict expected later this year.

The Dutch prosecutor finds them guilty and has asked for life sentences for all four.
