Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobyeva said that Indonesia had invited Russia to take part in preparing a draft plan for moving the country’s capital from Jakarta, located on the island of Java, to the island of Borneo. She noted that “as a result of the meeting of the presidents of the two countries in Moscow, an agreement was reached on intensifying investment cooperation.”

“In particular, there are good prospects in Kalimantan (Borneo), with regard to plans to transfer the capital of Indonesia from Java to Kalimantan (Borneo). I sent her an invitation to participate and the Moscow Government is showing interest in this, and we hope to achieve that.”

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a speech after talks with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Moscow, announced the possible participation of Russian companies in the implementation of a large-scale project of the Indonesian leadership to transfer the country’s capital to the island of Kalimantan (Borneo).
