Representative of the Energy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, Malek Shariati Nasser, announced the discovery of a new field with a capacity of one trillion cubic meters of natural gas north of the South Pars field.

The oil reservoir is located in the joint Pars field, which has reserves of about 900 million barrels, 90 kilometers from the coast of Iran and on a common border with Qatar, which is a lateral extension of the Al Shaheen field in Qatar. The size of the reserves of the South Pars field, which covers an area of 3.7 thousand square kilometers, is estimated at 14 trillion cubic meters of natural gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.

The first stage of the field development was put into operation in 2017. At this stage, a wellhead platform was drilled, a performance cleaning buoy was installed, 7 wells were drilled, oil production at the field reaches about 25,000 barrels. The production of the South Pars field is focused on natural gas as it is a natural gas field shared by Qatar and Iran, and Doha calls it the North Field, and it is one of the largest oil fields in the world, according to the International Energy Agency.
