A video has documented an incident in which a Brazilian man was seriously injured and his wife was treated for minor injuries after their car exploded while refueling at a gas station in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Video from surveillance cameras at the Rio de Janeiro station on Tuesday morning shows a 67-year-old man, Mario Magallanes, opening the trunk of his car before it suddenly exploded without warning.
The impact of the car’s explosion sent Magalhaes flying through the air and falling to the ground, while his wife Andrea Magalhaes, who was standing by the front passenger door, managed to escape the blast.
The clip shows his wife fleeing the car, the gas station’s roof panels crashing to the ground, and a gas station worker rushing to check on her husband and asking him for help.
Local media reported that Mario Magalhas was taken to Salgado Filho Hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery.
“I was on the other side inside the station refueling my car and I saw him go to open the trunk of his car, and as soon as he opened the trunk, there was an explosion,” a taxi driver, Estefao Aguiar, told Brazilian newspaper O Dia. occurred We went to help.”
Hugo Rowan, a 25-year-old gas station worker, said: The car’s gas cylinder was full of rust.
In this regard, Henrique Schneider, director of the Brazilian National Federation of Automobile Inspection Companies, said: The last time this car was inspected was on August 31, 2021, and the regular gas cylinder repair date was in January.
