Ukrainian authorities announced this Thursday that a Russian attack hit the flight academy of the National Aviation University in Kropivnitskyin southern Ukraine, leaving at least five dead and 25 wounded, including civilians.
“Two hangars were attacked. So far, 25 people have been taken to hospital and received medical attention. Five people were killed,” said the governor of the military administration of Kirovohrad province, Andriy Raikovich, in a video shared on the Telegram social network.
Speaking to Ukrainian public television, the representative stated that four of the fatalities are civilians, while the injured are 13 civilians and 12 soldiers.
The same representative warned that the number of victims could still increase.
According to the governor, also quoted by the Interfax-Ukraine agency, the missile attack, which he claimed to be Russian, damaged “aeronautical equipment“, a civilian aircraft An-26 and a training aircraft, as well as buildings located in the immediate vicinity.
According to Andriy Raikovich, the type of missiles used by the Russian forces is yet to be determined, but at least two shots were recorded.
This is the second attack targeting the Kropivnitsky region, after other Russian missiles damaged the runway and the building of a Ukrainian railway company on July 23, causing three deaths and 16 injuries.
