The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad al-Khalbusi, has announced the suspension of parliament until further notice, calling on all leaders of political blocs to “meet the citizen” and I call on Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi to take the necessary measures to protect institutions and demonstrators.

He called on the demonstrators to “observe peacefulness and protect state property.”

Al-Kazemi had previously pointed out that “political blocs must engage in urgent dialogue and stay away from language of treason and exclusion”, calling for “arbitration of reason and conscience and cooperation to rebuff those who want to sow rebellion in Iraq.”

He noted: “Everyone is responsible for what is happening in Iraq, including parties, the political class and influential parties. Iraqis do not want rebellion, fighting and hatred, but are looking for a future that fits their aspirations,” noting that “the current crisis is political and its solution is political, and everything is possible if you make concessions for the sake of Iraq” and the Iraqis.
