Britain’s intelligence services said on Monday that Russia was adjusting its plans in the Donbass after what it described as a “failure to make a decisive breakthrough”.
British intelligence indicated that Russia “may deploy large numbers of troops from the northern part of the Donbass to southern Ukraine.”
Regarding the battle in eastern Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense announced in an intelligence report on Friday that it is possible that the Russian private military group “Wagner” has taken responsibility for certain parts of the battle front in the east of this country.
A report by the British Ministry of Defense suggests that Moscow’s assignment of the “Wagner Group” for combat missions in Ukraine is likely due to “the huge shortage that Russia faces in combat infantry.”
Britain said in a regular intelligence bulletin on Twitter that “this is a significant change from the group’s previous mission from 2015, when it typically carried out tasks different from regular, overt and large-scale Russian military activity. “
And he noted that “Wagner’s forces are unlikely to be sufficient to make a significant change in the course of Russian military operations.”
And the British Ministry of Defense announced last March that “Wagner” mercenaries are stationed in eastern Ukraine and noted that, based on their estimates, more than a thousand fighters from this group could participate in the battle with Ukrainian forces.
Wagner was founded in 2014 by Dmitry Utkin, a former brigadier general in Russian military intelligence, and first appeared in eastern Ukraine, noting that Moscow has confirmed it is not officially affiliated with it.
Russian press research has estimated the number of “Wagner” fighters between 3,500 and 5,000 fighters, some of which are from the countries of the former Soviet Union.
