Angolan President mourns death of General “Sukissa”

The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, lamented on Monday the death of General Jorge Manuel dos Santos “Sukissa”, whom he described as a “dedicated soldier” and committed to defending the country’s independence and sovereignty.

General Jorge Manuel dos Santos “Sukissa”, Commander of the Angolan Navy, died on Sunday from illness.

Faced with the loss of such an illustrious son of the Homeland and in this hour of mourning and pain, the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, bows before his memory and presents the bereaved family and the Angolan Armed Forces condolences”, reads the note sent by the press services of the Angolan presidency.

The same note highlights the “valuable legacy” of General Sukissa that should inspire new generations of soldiers and citizens in general, “from the perspective of the will to selflessly defend the country and the contribution to its stability and development.”

It also points out that General “Sukissa” was committed from an early age to the cause of defending the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countryperforming various functions of command, direction and leadership, “with verve, dedication and unusual patriotism that earned him the respect and admiration of the military class and the Angolan people”.
