The unemployment rate in the euro zone stood at 6.6% last June, below the 7.9% of the same period of 2021 and stable compared to the percentage registered in May of this year, announced this Monday Eurostat.
According to data published by the community statistical office, Eurostat, in the interannual variation, there was then a drop in the unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) from 7.9% to 6.6%, respectively between June 2021 and the same month of 2022.
In the variation of the chain, this was the third consecutive month in which the unemployment rate in the eurozone was 6.6%, which had already happened in April and May.
Portugal was below the eurozone average, registering a Unemployment rate of 6.1% in June 2022, less than the same period in 2021 (when it stood at 6.7%) and slightly above last month (6%).
In the European Union (EU) as a whole, the unemployment rate was 6% in June this year, also below the 7.2% in the same month of 2021 and stable compared to the percentage in May.
In absolute numbers, Eurostat estimates that 12.9 million men and women in the EUof which 10.9 million in the eurozone, were unemployed in June 2022.
Compared to June 2021, unemployment decreased by 2.3 million in the EU and by 1.9 million in the euro zone.
Regarding youth unemployment, in June 2022, 2.5 million young people (under 25 years old) were unemployed in the EU, of which two million in the euro area.
By percentage, in June 2022, the youth unemployment rate was 13.6% both in the EU and in the eurozone, compared to 16.8% in the Union as a whole and 17.1% in the European Union. single currency in the same period last year. and 13.3% and 13.2% in the previous month.
Compared to May 2022, Youth unemployment increased by 59,000 in the EU and by 64,000 in the euro zone, while compared to June 2021, youth unemployment has been reduced by 527,000 in the EU and by 450,000 in the euro zone.
By gender, the unemployment rate in June was 6.4% in the EU for women and 5.7% for men.
