Archie Battersbee. The parents apply to the court and the machines will not be turned off at 11 am

Archie Battersbee’s life support machines will not be turned off at 11:00. The parents of the 12-year-old boy met the deadline and filed an application for transfer to a hospice unit with the English High Court on the morning of Thursday 4 August.

On Wednesday, August 3, Archie’s parents appealed to the European Court of Human Rights, obtaining another postponement of the shutdown of the machines, which was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. that day—the case went before the court for two hours. ahead of schedule to start the protocol. Hours later, the judicial body refused to interfere in the decision of the British Justice, Sky News learned, claiming that it could not replace the “national courts”, nor did it wish to interfere in British legislation.

On the same day, the same channel revealed that Archie’s parents had until 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, to appeal to the Supreme Court for permission to transfer the boy to a hospice unit. It was then known that if they did not do it by 9 in the morning, even the machines would be turned off. On Tuesday, the British Supreme Court had ruled, for the third time, in favor of the medical decision to turn off the machines that keep the child alive despite the diagnosis of brain death.
