Four police officers were arrested on Thursday and charged in connection with the 2020 murder of Breonna Taylor, the BBC said. Three of the officers, Kyle Meany, Joshua Jaynes and Kelly Goodlett, were charged with allegedly knowingly using false information to obtain arrest warrants that led to searches of Breonna Taylor’s home. Former detective Brett Hankinson was charged with violating civil rights by allegedly resorting to excessive force.
Taylor, a 26-year-old black health worker, was shot multiple times by a police team, who entered her home with a search warrant as part of an operation. drug trafficking investigationin which her boyfriend was a suspect.
Police forces searched the apartment and found no drugs. However, Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend ended up shooting after the police broke down the door, thinking they were burglars. In response, the cops ended up hitting Taylor with 20 bullets.
Until the resolution now known, the case led to a civil complaint, with the mayor of Louisville agreeing to pay 12 million dollars (about 10.2 million euros) to the family of Breonna Taylor and initiating reforms in the police.
