British military intelligence said Saturday that Russia’s war in Ukraine is about to enter a new phase, with most of the fighting shifting to a front roughly 350 kilometers southwest of the country near Zaporizhia to Kherson along the Dnieper River.
The British Ministry of Defense said in a post on Twitter on Saturday that it is almost certain that Russian forces are massed in southern Ukraine and are preparing to repel a counter-attack or possible attack.
According to the ministry, long convoys of Russian trucks, tanks, artillery and military weapons are moving from the Donbass region to southwestern Ukraine.
The British Ministry of Defense said in a daily update that tactical groups of 800 to 1,000 troops have been deployed in Crimea and will almost certainly be used to support Russian forces in the Kherson region.
He noted that “Ukrainian forces are targeting bridges, ammunition depots and railways in the southern regions, including the strategically important railway that connects Kherson to Russian-occupied Crimea.”
According to “Pravda” newspaper, citing the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in this context, Russian forces continue to attack the city of “Bakhmut” in the west of Lugansk and north of Donetsk.
The commission said in a Facebook post on Saturday that “on the Bakhmut front, Russian forces used tank guns and rockets” to target several areas and airstrikes on others.
The official said that “no major changes occurred on the Volyn, Polisya and Severshina fronts. Russian forces shelled areas with artillery in the vicinity of Hai, Mikhalkina Sloboda (Chernihiv region) and Nova Huta (Sumy region) regions.”
According to this official, the Russian forces carried out defensive operations in order to maintain their positions and prevent the advance of the Ukrainian armed forces in the “Slobozhanshchyna” area.
On the front in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, the Russians used artillery and rockets to bombard several areas, and Russian aircraft carried out airstrikes in other areas, and Russian forces used drones for reconnaissance.
In Sloviansk, Russian forces bombarded the “neighborhoods of Mazaniyuka, Krasnopilia, Solhyukia, Karnokhyukka, and Vernopilia” using several types of artillery.
The official noted that “Russian military and attack aircraft have been deployed on the Donetsk front.”
