The State of Qatar sponsored the signing of the Doha Peace Agreement by the Chadian parties and the participation of political and military movements in an inclusive sovereign national dialogue.

In turn, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Chadian Abroad in the Republic of Chad, Sheriff Mohamed Zein, praised “the great role of the State of Qatar in mediation between the Chadian parties, which led to a happy ending with the signing of the Doha Peace Agreement and the participation of political and military movements in a comprehensive and sovereign national dialogue in Chad”. He called Doha the “global capital” of the world.

In a press statement on the sidelines of the signing of the agreement, which took place today at the Doha Sheraton Hotel, he stressed that “The State of Qatar has made every effort to ensure that the path to peace is successful, especially since more than 90 percent of the armed movements have signed this agreement, and it matters to Qatari diplomacy, which has been successful in all negotiations so far.” Peace and agreements previously adopted by Doha.

Zain expressed confidence that this agreement will lead to a lasting peace and will allow all armed groups that have signed this agreement to participate in a comprehensive national dialogue to be held in Chad on 20 August. He expressed optimism about the outcome of this agreement, noting that “the majority of armed groups have signed this agreement and will participate in an inclusive national dialogue that is a forum for all the people of Chad.”

He expressed his confidence that “more than 1,000 people representing various sections of Chadian society will gather in Chad during this dialogue, and they will discuss all issues related to the future of Chad, regarding the constitution, future elections, army reform and everything … so I think that those who refused to sign lost the opportunity.” This is a very historic and very important participation in this process.”
