According to Bloomberg, citing sources, Apple plans to hold an event on September 7 to introduce the iPhone 14 product line and will release the latest version of the product that generates more than half of its sales.
New iPhones kick off a busy fall season that also includes several new Macs, a budget iPad, and three Apple Watch models.
The unveiling of Apple’s flagship product comes at an uncertain time for the industry. Smartphone sales have adapted to inflation and recent economic turmoil.
But Apple appears to be doing better than its peers: The iPhone sold well last quarter, and the company has signaled to suppliers that it doesn’t expect demand to slow.
The US tech giant usually announces products other than the iPhone, including the latest Apple Watch.
The company usually releases a new iPhone in stores about a week and a half after its unveiling, and Apple is expected to stick to that pattern this year.
Some retail store staff have also been told to prepare for a new product launch on September 16.
Apple shares rose nearly 1 percent to $174.54 in New York trading. The stock is still down 2 percent this year, though it has rebounded from much deeper declines in recent months.
The company plans to stream the event online — rather than in person — the same approach it took at the start of the pandemic. According to Bloomberg, Apple launches are very stylish affairs, and employees have started recording clips of the presentations for the past few weeks.
An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on the timing of the event.
With this news still about 3 weeks away, the company’s plans may change, but usually Apple unveils its latest iPhones in the first half of September.
The company held its most recent event in June to announce its next set of software updates — iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9 and macOS Ventura — and invited press and developers to its headquarters to watch a video of the presentation. do
The arrangement was part of Apple’s slow transition to more streamlined operations, a push that included a return to the office.
The standard iPhone 14 will look similar to the iPhone 13, although the company is ditching the 5.4-inch “mini” version and adding a 6.7-inch model. This is the first time that Apple has released a non-Pro iPhone with a screen of this size.
The company is also planning bigger changes for the iPhone 14 Pro line. Apple will replace the front-facing camera hole, known as the notch, with a bean-shaped notch for Face ID sensors and a hole-sized area for the camera. This gives users a little more screen space.
The company is also adding a faster chip to the iPhone 14 Pro. Meanwhile, Apple will keep the A15 chip from the iPhone 13 in the regular iPhone 14 models.
While the most important changes in the iPhone 14 Pro will be in the camera system, which will look a little bigger for consumers. The Pro models will have a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera along with 12-megapixel ultra-wide and telephoto sensors. Apple also plans to make improvements to video recording and battery life.
And for the latest Apple Watch, known as the Series 8, Apple is adding women’s health features and a body temperature sensor. The standard watch will have a similar look to the 7 Series, but the new Pro model will be more in line with sports consumers.
It will have a larger screen, a durable titanium frame, new fitness tracking features, and longer battery life.
The company is also planning a new Apple Watch SE, its budget smartwatch, with a faster chip.
Also coming in September: iOS 16, the software that runs on the following iPhones, and watchOS 9, the next Apple Watch operating system.
The company plans to launch MacOS Ventura in October alongside iPadOS, the iPad operating system.
The last show was delayed by about a month, partly due to glitches with Stage Manager’s new multitasking system.
